crush

Yo, it’s Friday again. Shit’s cloudy. It’s cool. I woke up at some point and I don’t know what time it was. I know it was about 6:30am when I got out of bed.

I did more work yesterday. One pair of fleece pants has elastic and is completely finished; I’ll “fill” the second pair this afternoon. I worked on gathering the leg openings on the VERY LOOOONG TABLECLOTH pants, and pinned the cuff in place. By the time I finished the pinning, I didn’t want to touch the fabric again. I folded it up and set it aside, and moved on to ironing neckties.

I had set up a phone and streamed the crafting. At some point, I had 300+ people steadily watching me iron ties. I wasn’t even chatting. A friend of mine dropped in on the stream to ask what I was making this time, and I told the story of the $2 tote bag of neckties. I eventually finished ironing the ties, but I had been chatting enough to be friendly by then. The remainder of my time, I mostly ignored my phone and scrolled on my laptop, being vaguely chatty. I had some fun joking and imitating a couple of the bigger streamers. Inevitably, I’ll get at least one foot guy in chat who makes a comment on my bare feet. Depending on mood and the overall chat atmosphere, I’ll keep them visible or wiggle a toe. I took things a step farther yesterday when I had a few people actively engaging in chat. I put on a big smile, shifted my voice up to Disney-princess levels of sweetness, “If we can get to 3500 likes, I’ll crush this dinosaur!”

Much to my shock and amusement, the likes started coming in hard and fast. They hit the goal in about three minutes. I made $1.55 in “gifts” about a minute flat for stepping on a squishy dinosaur.

Obviously, it pays to be sociable. Maybe I should try being friendly more often.

Shawshank suggested I put the phone on a tripod mounted on the Roomba. I might give it a shot this morning. There’s a guy who makes bank streaming his lawn mower, for Christ’s sake. Tonight is Date Night. Shawshank said we’ll go out, get stuffed full of fries, then come home and get baked.
