stages

Good morning, people in my technology. It’s windy. This morning’s sleep suuuucked. I woke up too early. I was awake for a bit, trying to get comfy and go back to sleep; when I decided to finally look at the time, it was only 4am. Every word that comes out of my mouth sounds like I’m bitching. Shawshank is cowering in fear.

I managed to be somewhat productive yesterday, and pulled a bunch of fabric bits from the batch of shit that’s not finished. Mentally, they have stages:

  1. prep: cutting and pinning the two panels together to make the basic pants
  2. more pins: finishing the waist and ankles, either with a simple channel for the elastic, or a fancier contrasting fabric waistband/ankle cuffs.
  3. Finishing it up: installing the elastic

I had two panels cut for a pair – barely Stage 1 – so I sewed those up first. I had two more pairs of pants in Stage 2 already, bringing me to three pairs that required their contrasting fabrics pinned in place. However, before I could get to pinning, the edges of the ankles needed to be gathered up. Thankfully, that process is much much easier now that I’ve mastered it with the machine rather than hand-making pleats. Pinning cuffs and waistbands in place isn’t difficult, but I feel like I need to check and re-check I’ve pinned them in correctly multiple times. It’s vaguely nerve-wracking at times, actually. At the end of the afternoon, I had gathered up a total of six ankles and pinned cuffs to them.

Shawshank is working half the day. I’m going to assume a human form and then take the day from there. I’m struggling with Witcher 3; I’m stuck, and I’m not happy about it.
