You need the dark in order to show the light

Good morning, world. It’s Monday, and I’ve been up since 6am. The snow hasn’t started yet. However, the southern half of the state has already started seeing flakes, so it’s not far off. We can expect it to get bad closer to lunch time. Until then, I have a busy morning.

First, probably while I lollygag writing this post, the junk haul guys will be here. I counted the money bucket while my tea brewed. I’m probably safe enough to have them take the big stuff from upstairs. Furniture isn’t easy to sell, especially bulky antique stuff. I’ll at least get quotes for the downstairs things.

Later, another junk guy will be here for Shawshank‘s car. Now I can park slightly closer to the front door. Whatever cash I get for the Subaru will offset the cost of the junk haul. I want to tackle under the kitchen sink today, and a couple of kitchen cabinets. I continue to look at things and mentally tick off whether they fall under “keep” or “toss”, but fail to process them any farther. As a result, there’s a lot of random stuff kicking about.

The guy who wanted the tool chest actually showed up last night. After he paid me, I asked if he wanted some help to put it in the back of his truck. He assured me he could get it up there.

Narrator: He could not get it up there.

Update: the first tiny flakes started and the junk guys have been in. They were fast, and cheap as fuck. And because they were so awesome, they got a tip AND one of them left with Shawshank‘s collection of Star Trek trading cards.

Someone finally inquired abut the dining room set as well. She said she’d come by on Wednesday to check it out. Normally, I would have told her I wouldn’t hold it if someone else is interested. However, we’re looking at anywhere between 4-16″ of snow over the next two days. I don’t foresee someone coming out for a table and six chairs in a nor’easter.

Our agent is still working to sell the house. I guess they’re stuck on the estimates for the concrete repair. They haven’t been able to get an appointment for an estimate yet. Plus, they can’t even repair anything because of the weather anyway. This is exactly why she tried to caution this buyer about trying to get this place with the FHA loan. I like to imagine she slams a phone receiver into its cradle over and over again every time she gets off the phone with the buyer’s people.

The town will probably delay trash pickup. While it’s no where near as bad as things were at the beginning, I’ve returned to the “great trash heap” method I previously used. I have several boxes of things ready to bring outside on Wednesday night.

This is shaping up to be another year where my birthday sucks.
