The best kind of Mondays are the ones that I don’t need to work. I dismissed both of the morning alarms and went back to sleep, and stayed in bed for an extra 90 minutes. The cats let me sleep. It was fabulous.
Unfortunately, tomorrow’s shift will be a shitshow of epic proportions. I’m already scheduled to start earlier, and DayTech is staying later.
Yesterday’s trip to the vaccine clinic went fine. Both boys were very, very upset in their crates. They dramatically cried the entire way down to Petco. The vet and her assistant gave them all the pets they could handle and assured them they were definitely not going to die. The cats were only slightly better on the way back. Chaucer was quieter, but Mal cried the whole time. I let them out as soon as I had the crates in the house. Mal hid behind a couch and continued to cry for another 15 minutes.
I spent the better part of the yesterday afternoon measuring things. While cleaning the basement, I found two pallets, and there’s a much smaller one in The Pink Room. I figured they would save me some money when it comes to building the sleeping platform in the truck. With the pallets and truck measured, I pulled out some graph paper and made a little scale “floorplan” of everything. I pretty much only need to buy the lumber to make the platform’s “legs”. I’ll also buy a small amount of plywood to fill in the gap that wouldn’t have a pallet.
The biggest issue will be the cat carriers, because they take up so much space. I really don’t want to keep them locked in the crates for the entire drive. I think that would be too stressful for them. A cross-country trip is stressful enough without being cooped up in the crates for 8-10 hours a day. Unfortunately, I’m not certain I’ll have money in the budget for a barrier between the front and back of the truck.
I boxed up the remaining glasses and stuff yesterday afternoon. I filled a box almost entirely with plastic storage bowls. Today is more packing, although I really shouldn’t even call it that. Is it really “packing” if the contents will be on the curb with the trash in 3 days? Anyway, there’s an entire closet to bag up. I have some other clothes I want to go through, to figure out what can come with and what can’t.
I also need to do the laundry, box up a completed eBay auction, and put things up for sale. Somewhere in between, I might go outside and poi for a bit.
But for now, I really need to pee. Have a good day, people.
