delightful noises

Why did the Food Network need to come out with a scripted holiday movie? Are they afraid people like my mother – who spends half the time the TV is on watching HGTV – might change their obsession channel and watch the bullshit elsewhere?

It was a bad night. Chaucer started yowling in the kitchen just after Shawshank and I hung up. Eventually, I had to go out and chase him into my room so he’d STFU. I tried to stay up a little and put on an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation before going to sleep. I think I made it about halfway through an episode before I crashed. Unfortunately, it wasn’t long before I was awake again. Mal started making his horking noises and I sent him off the bed and ran for the paper towels again. The horking repeated at least twice, thankfully without producing anything more than noises.

On the other hand, Chaucer must have had a good night. I think he spent the night writing an opera, because he certainly spent all fucking morning rehearsing it in the kitchen.

I worked some more on the two paintings I’ve been doing this week. The painting of the compound is coming along, finally. I feel like there’s a stage in the painting where everything changes. I can paint and paint and struggle and whine and hate everything about a piece in progress. And then all of a sudden, something changes in the painting and it starts to look ok to me. And it’s funny, because of the two buildings I’m painting, the Compound isn’t the one I was happy to do.

I may be out of the house and no longer working on The Great Sort, but I was back to making a travel list last night. Mom has a load of clothes in the wash. I’ll be doing some of my own tomorrow before we go to the Compound for dinner. I need to remember to properly ask to use Brian’s mom’s luggage, even though I know she already offhandedly said I could. I think I’ll work on pre-packing and tidying my room up in prep for leaving, otherwise I’ll spend my entire trip worrying my mother is cleaning my room and judging me.
