He called. A collect call at 9pm is better than one at 9am, on the highway. Or, after 11 days of psych hold and 12 days after an arrest.
They finally completed his intake today. He isn’t locked in his cell for 90% of the day. He said the guards were being very nice to him this afternoon. They even gave him the form and a pencil to get me on his visitor list.
Unfortunately, he’s freaking out. When ICE picked him up on Saturday, they told him the case would probably be heard by a judge this week. Today, he spoke to someone from ICE at the jail. They told him he’s looking at about 3 weeks.
At least 3 weeks.
Understandably, he’s upset. I think I would be if our places were switched.
“The only way to speed up the process,” he said, “would be if I walked up to the ICE department here and told them ‘I’m done, send me home.’ The only home I want is with you. Home isn’t up there, home is with you and the cats.”
