but they never came home

Good morning, people, and happy Tuesday. I emerged from the bed to a gorgeous sunrise. The mornings come earlier and earlier. I’ve been awake since around 5:30ish, doing the doze.

We had a long, boring day at home. Shawshank made us a delicious brunch, and I enjoyed my usual peanut butter and bacon on toast. We’d settled in for a day of boring Murdaugh trial testimony when his dad called to let us know we might be able to drive out to the farm and see some brand new calves. He said he’d probably call us in an hour or two when they had the cows inside. We dressed and waited.

And waited.

And waited more.

But the cows never came.

Later in the afternoon, when the trial was over for the day, Shawshank handed me the Switch controller. “This is a surefire way to guarantee a phone call”, he said. Alas, his plan failed; no one called. Shawshank and his mom conferred and decided we probably weren’t going anywhere, and it was probably safe to cook dinner. We took turns playing Breath of The Wild, and I worked on my crochet hat for a while.

The cats have started their morning playdate. They’re chasing each other around the house. Pippin runs and hides in the tub, Chaucer chasing behind her. Then they switch roles, and Chaucer tears ass into the living room, Pippin following close behind him, and jumps into the window.

I’m going to do the human things today. Shawshank‘s mother will call and pick me up if the cows start hatching out the babies, so I need to be ready.
