Shawshank and I each wished the other would have a good Thursday. “It’s been a rough couple of weeks”, I said.
“You need some wins at work”, he replied.
Ten minutes later, I locked my keys in the truck.
I called AAA and waited. I mean, it’s all I could do. My neighbor came out and chatted a bit. “It’s a rite of passage”, he commiserated. “At least it’s sunny and nice out. Once, I was warming up my truck after work. It was the dead of winter, and just locked the doors out of habit when I got out of it. I was standing in a snowy parking lot for an hour.”
My shift was another shitshow. It was a milder case of shitshow than the start of the week, but a shitshow nonetheless. I was only 30 minutes late for work, however I couldn’t stop at the post office as planned. The rest of the day was definitely a “same shit, different day” situation. We’re still trying to catch up with the chaos leftover by the broken phone systems. The DM is hounding the store manager about making everyone take the totally voluntary, totally anonymous employee satisfaction survey. Corporate is on the district’s ass about special ordering things rather than sticking to their “trust the system to order what you need”. Shit rolls downhill.
We left a lot of things unfinished last night. I set up things for the morning, stocked some supplies, and asked StressedRPh if she wanted me to stay to finish things. “I’m beat, I’m leaving, go home”, she said.
Today’s the last of my shifts for the week, unless NewTech continues with her pattern of calling out every other week. I have a doctor’s appointment this morning. After the appointment, I’ll hit the post office, and then buy myself some brunch before my shift starts.
I’ll keep my keys in my pocket and hope the day goes smoothly.
I hope NewTech stubs her big toe repeatedly through out he shift tomorrow, and walks with a limp when she leaves
