Guess who’s sitting in the tire shop getting new back tires?
That’d be me. We went outside Thursday morning and had a flat. It looks like I’m kicking it here for an hour or two. This is not something I want to be doing, mostly because I’m missing out on my Saturday workout. He’s working this morning, and it’ll be time for him to punch out by the time I get done here in the shop. Then it’s off for an afternoon of grocery shopping.
I reminded him to get in touch with the public defender’s office yesterday. The last legal thing was over a month ago and we hadn’t heard anything since December, when he was told he didn’t need to be at the first meeting. Yesterday, they told him his case was transferred to another PD. We were pretty optimistic about the first one, as he has a fantastic record. The current PD is on the same level as the first, which I want to believe is a good sign.
Unfortunately, there wasn’t much more to update us with. They told him to call the office on the day before the next hearing to find out if he has to be there. It’s frustrating because it means we’re going to have to take the day off, even if it turns out he doesn’t need to be there. However, it might be better to have the day off, regardless, just because I know neither of us will be in the best state of mind that day.
I don’t need to be there, that much is certain. If he has to be there, I’ll go with him, but I won’t go to the actual meeting. Right now, I don’t think I could handle it. Something new comes out into the open every few weeks. A little nugget of knowledge here and there, I can handle.
The truth is, I don’t want to go down that path all at once.
It would be like the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark, when the ark is opened and the bad guys’ faces melt off. I know it’s better to get it done with as quickly as possible, but I can’t bring myself to rip the band-aid at once.
Really, I just want everything to be done.
