Swinging Flow

Swinging Flow

It was a beautiful afternoon. I spent most of the morning sorting and filling trash bags and boxes. Almost as soon as I got out of bed, I had the book box outside and on the curb. I had a few things that I knew would be picked up if I put them out early enough.

They were all gone within a couple of hours.

I made lunch and did the dishes, then put more stuff on the curb. I went out to the truck to measure the cargo area, and discovered I’d left the lights on yesterday after I met up with the wreath person. Whoops. I have a jump pack charging overnight. I watched some Youtube videos. Shawshank has assured me I can do this, and I won’t blow up the truck.

And, just because it was so fucking nice out, I brought the poi outside and took them for a spin. My headphones were charged already. Since I’d been cleaning and trying to get my own “extras” organized, I had everything in one spot. I put on some music, brought out the new leviwand, the pod poi, and the fire poi Shawshank bought me for Christmas, and just spun my little heart out in the back yard.

It felt great. I really need to practice some things, since I seem to only do the same few moves. I’m not planning on lighting up the fire poi any time soon. Shawshank reiterated tonight, under no circumstances am I to light up without someone with me. I reminded him of my promise to him, no matter how long it might take, he will be with me for my first burn. The only reason I was spinning with them at all was to get a feel for how they move. All my sets have a different feel, and the last thing I want is to be hurling a flaming wad of Kevlar that moves in an unfamiliar way.

And if we want to talk about things moving in unfamiliar ways, let’s talk about my new leviwand. Shawshank bought one for me for Christmas.

It’s a very basic, short string wand from Flowtoys. It’s pretty fun, really lightweight and balanced, but I felt like I wanted something a bit more out of it. A couple of weeks after Shawshank was detained, I had a bad night and wanted a little retail therapy. I ended up on the Derpgear website, and as it turned out the shop had just reopened. Bam. Custom reflective tape, shiny as hell, long string wand. It was delivered yesterday.

“How’s the new wand?” asked Shawshank, knowing I’d been tracking it obsessively for a week.

“It’s a fucking beast,” I told him. Once I find that sweet spot in terms of string length, I’ll be getting in a lot of practice on that one outside, that’s for sure.
