Oh come on.

Morning, folks. Looks like we all survived another night. If you didn’t, well, color me impressed. I’m flattered you’re still here to read this drivel, even in the afterlife.

Just like Monday, yesterday was pretty sucky. I had hoped that Monday had cleared up all of the bullshit left from the weekend, but I was wrong. It was steady right up until we closed. However, it was fun to work with someone who’s into the same type of things I am. Power Nerd and I talked all shift about AD&D (which I’ve never played) and MUDs (which he’d never played) and World of Warcraft.

Most of the time, I simply felt incredibly frustrated the entire day. It was a long shift, or it felt like it anyway. Even though I know we didn’t leave anything that mattered, I felt like we didn’t finish everything. I know I’ll hear about some sort of problem when I punch in today.

Adding to the frustration….

Shawshank messaged me in the morning, “The border is closed until at least August 21”.

I’m just so tired of everything.

I try to put a positive spin on things. With the closure extended, I shouldn’t feel as pressured to get everything done ASAP. Until he can put his own affairs in order, Shawshank‘s parents don’t need the added stress of me up there. He has at least another two months before he can even begin the process to set up a new ID, which is its own enormous pile of donkey shit. Without an ID, he can’t find a job. His parents shouldn’t have to deal with the two of us, unemployed and hanging around the house.

But it would be a lie if I said I’m not worried and upset about everything. The timeline has always had a starting date of “leave before things get too cold to camp”. My hours have changed just enough to make my current budget pretty tight. Unfortunately, I have yet to have a normal paycheck since they changed, so I don’t have an exact figure for what my regular paycheck will be. Since Shawshank has jumped the border, I had to switch up my phone plan to be able to call him, plus there’s the added cost of his line. Because of this, I’m not 100% certain that my budget will allow me to stick around Casa de Chicky indefinitely. He lost his debit card about two weeks ago and can’t buy cigarettes, and I think that’s been my one positive to my bottom line.

This morning, I was actually awake enough at the first alarm to get up relatively early. I brought out the trash that I didn’t take out last night: 7 cardboard boxes and 2 lamps.

At least there’s a little bit of accomplishment to be had, even if it involves dismantling my life.
