Feh.

Feh.

Morning, y’all. Happy Monday. I have sunshine, and I woke up with a semi-snuggly cat. Alas, we’re not looking at playtime-warm today. I’ll live, but I don’t need to be happy about it.

We had a full house over here yesterday. Saturday, there was some confusion about who was hosting the Superb Owl festivities. Last weekend, we went to the Compound and Brian’s mother asked him “are you doing the game on next Sunday?” We happily agreed because it would be more pleasant for all of us. Brian called his mother on Friday to confirm what time they would be over on Sunday. His mother thought she was hosting. She’d told everyone to come to her house and bought food. Brian told her to bring it over here because we bought more stuff.

The crew came over here. Brian’s mom absolutely won’t sit down and relax because she needs to be in control of everything. Mind you, there’s nothing for her to do. They brought two frozen pizzas, some multi-layer monstrosity of a dip, soda, and a crockpot full of rice. There was nothing for her to actually prepare, but she wanted to be in charge of everything. I’m sure it absolutely killed her to not be the hostess.

I received a couple of birthday gifts. Brian’s uncle gave me a belated Christmas gift since I wasn’t here for the holiday. It was a box of Valentines chocolates. The family friend who is part of the Compound Crew gave me a restaurant gift card and made a cake. Brian’s mom made me one of her famous “birthday goody bags”. She claims these goody bags are famous among the family. This year, mine included a bag of orange gum drop, a pen shaped like a yellow flamingo, a single-serve mudslide, a fine point Sharpie (“to sign my painting!” she explained), a reusable tote bag, and a chip clip.

Chaucer hid for most of the evening, but came out around dinner time. He slunk out of Mom‘s bedroom, got a little bit of pets from me and Brian, and then made his way to the food Mom offered. Most surprisingly, Chaucer allowed Brian’s dad to give him one of those ruffle-pets on his head.

Fortunately, everyone left just after the 2nd quarter. I helped Mom clear the table, then enjoyed the best halftime show they’ve had in years.

With the promise of sunshine, Mom has a load of clothes in the washer already. I plan to put on some clothes and have a human day.

  1. This is all the snuggle I will ever get, and I’m pretty sure Brian’s uncle ate 3.5 out of the 7 layers all on his own. (chicky.blog/feh/)
