Hello, gentle readers. We have yet another gray day in TinyTown. It rained almost all day yesterday. Thinking about it, this is really the first time I’ve seen rain since I left Florida. My drive up was dry and sunny. There wasn’t any rain the first couple of weeks I was here, then the snow hit. That’s all we saw for precipitation until this week.
Naturally, the first voyage out in the rain was an anxiety-ridden ride into Slightly BiggerTown. I don’t make a great passenger in shitty weather. At the same time, I hate driving in it myself. I was snappy at Shawshank while he drove because I was all nerved up.
We made our rounds in Slightly BiggerTown, but nothing went as planned. I wanted to stop in the small fabric/quilting shop in town so I could buy elastic. Unfortunately, the storefront closed. I was pretty excited to go to the secondhand shop and buy some more fabric. As it turns out, they’re not open on Fridays. I wanted to buy a taller tripod, but skipped that. For the price I would have paid in the shop, I could buy a better one on Amazon and maybe have some money left.
Basically, after all was said and done, I gave up playing Tears of the Kingdom first and got nothing for it.
Then, when I finally did have my chance to play, after starting with a rant-inducing “follow me while I walk half your speed” scene, I spent an hour or so incredibly frustrated in the starting area. I had a terrible time dealing with the 3D aspects of the map, especially because I was losing my pins. I would drop pins on landmarks, get close to it on one level, like you do. Then the game would clear the pin because I was close to the marker, but I’d be on a different level. Now I can’t see the fucking landmark I pinned in the first place.
It’s still a fucking gorgeous game, don’t get me wrong. Shawshank said it’s growing pains. I played again after dinner and managed to get to what I’m calling the Goatse shrine.
Shawshank‘s already turned on the game, so I’m going to try and find some way to amuse myself for a few hours until he drains the good Joycons.
