a bargain and some cookies

Good morning, loves. Happy Sunday. I’m awake, after having a restless, dream-filled morning. I haven’t had a dreamy sleep in a long time. They weren’t nightmares, thankfully. I don’t remember much of the dreams. I know the concept of osmosis played a part in one dream, and there was something about massive rocks being thrown about like in The Hobbit‘s thunder battle.

Yesterday was good, and we checked off all the tasks on our list. We went to BiggerTown, which has a nicer drive than our regular shopping trip. Our first stop was the hardware store for a replacement shower hose. We ended up buying some last minute Christmas presents while we were there. The store offered free gift wrapping, so the gifts for Shawshank‘s coworker and boss are handled. More importantly, we can shower again.

After a quick stop for some lunch, our next stop was the secondhand store. This is my favorite kind of secondhand shop: a small house that’s been converted to a thrift shop, where every room has a different theme. Best of all, out front was a sign announcing the entire store was 50% off. We didn’t have anything in mind when we got there, and I quickly forgot about the sale while looking at the old albums. I found Shawshank in the “kitchen” room, with a beautiful vintage PYREX mixing bowl. He turned it over to show me the price tag, which wasn’t bad at $25. Then he reminded me of the sale, and I started pulling PYREX off the shelves. I ended up paying $34 for six bowls, and I almost feel bad paying so little for them. On our way out, they gave us a mystery “customer appreciation” gift, which turned out to be a romance novel from the 80’s.

After the distraction of the thrift shop, followed by a trip into a clothing shop, we stuck to what we needed at the grocery store. I took pictures of meats to tease my mother about how cheap it is up here compared to what she pays in Florida. We grabbed what was on our list and headed back to the Flat. Shawshank fixed the shower and put a load of bulky stuff in the washer. We spent the rest of the day lounging on the couch with the cats.

We’re expecting more of the same today. He’s already dressed, and the first load of clothes is going. Later this afternoon, we’re going to Shady Acres. We’re helping his mom make some cake balls. She’ll send us home with a bunch of desserts.
