Turkey For Me, Turkey For You

Yesterday’s Thanksgiving dinner turned out pretty well. The only thing that didn’t come out as planned were the apple cinnamon rolls, which didn’t rise well at all and ended up as vaguely apple-flavored hockey pucks. We have a load of leftovers, and tonight we’re making Thanksgiving pizzas.

It was nice to do stuff in the kitchen together. We used to have fun with the food blog, and coming up with new recipes and trying new things. Most of the time now, aside from dinners, we don’t do much cooking together. For one thing, it’s expensive to buy a bunch of food stuff for an experimental meal. While his paychecks with his current job are roughly the same as they were pre-arrest, until things are clearer about where the future is headed, I don’t want to drop that cash on a single meal. Also, it’s difficult for me to want to spend a couple of afternoons editing photos and writing up a post that three people will read.

And yet, I still post here, with my two regular readers.

But again, it was nice to cook together. I did most the things that were for me: homemade cranberry jelly and sweet potatoes. He made himself some green bean casserole and mashed potatoes, and handled the turkey. For the most part, we both made the rolls, with him taking care of gradually adding the flour or stirring the apple filling while it cooked while I rolled everything up and took care of the kneading.

Eventually, the food got on the table. Most of it, anyway, as I forgot my cranberry jelly in the fridge until halfway through dinner. We toasted to a happy Thanksgiving, and hopefully some more of them.
