Good morning, world. We’re up, and it’s two minutes until the cats’ breakfast. Podrick is waiting by the feeder. The beast must feed.
I did not have a good Tuesday. I spent most of my day trying to figure out how to stream without my app of choice. There are three options:
- Default stream using the laptop’s webcam, controlling toys w/ the official app/browser extension: I don’t want to do this. I have a Chromebook, y’all. The built in cam may as well be the Logitech I had in 1999, the browser hogs all the processing power, and the quality on all fronts is bad.
- Stream from my laptop, using my phone as a both webcam + toy controller: this is a better option for video quality, but I don’t think the toy controller will play nice if I use it as a webcam at the same time (I’ve heard the app needs to be active for the Bluetooth to remain connected). However, it adds at least one more cord to the mix, and it’ll have to be USB.
- Stream w/ the broken app: it still works, but not my preferred way. I need to use the built in OBS option, not the browser option. I can use the web option, but it only loads in desktop mode, not mobile. The video preview is too small for me to see from the bean bag, and I lose my tip info overlay. Watching my video feed is out of the question, there’s about a 10s delay.
I’m probably going to try the second or third option today, because I have to do something.1 Yesterday was a very not good sort of day. I’ve spent the last 6 months consistently logging in, I have a routine, I feel like I’m doing something. And then I can’t, now my routine is broken, every single solution makes things harder.
Eventually, around dinner time, I stopped angrily searching Amazon and Best Buy for refurbed laptops. I made dinner an hour late, then played Civ until it was dark outside. It was such a bad day that Shawshank brought a cake home for me.
