GOOD MORNING, PEOPLE OF THE INTERWEBS!
I was so very wrong yesterday, and had an entire shift with Whatshisname yesterday. And I have an entire shift with him today, too. CAN YOU FEEL MY ENTHUSIASM, PEOPLE?
I knew you could.
Thankfully, we don’t need to deal with him after Friday. And I don’t have to spend the entire shift with him, I warned him I’m going to be a little late because I’m stopping at the Post Office before I go in.
I’ve spent the last few nights/mornings working on the blog I set up for Shawshank‘s “memoirs”. They can be found at Void if Removed: The Memoirs of an ICE Detainee. I can usually transcribe a page or two an hour. At the moment, I’m still in the first half of March. Looking back at the first few letters (which he started about a week after he was first detained) it’s a drastic change from what’s happening now. He hadn’t had court yet, only a court date, and was expecting to leave a month later. We could still have weekly visits, and nothing was shut down due to Corona. He writes so much about what he’s reading, it makes it terribly easy to monetize it with Amazon Affiliates.
Shawshank‘s case worker with the Canadian consulate emailed me yesterday. She’s trying to get his travel documents in order, and is running into snags. He surrendered his passports when he was released on bail when all this started. Both of them were expired anyway, so he didn’t think anything of it. When ICE detained him in February, they confiscated his driver’s license and his permanent resident card (the green card – it’s not actually green). The case worker is trying to work with ICE to get that stuff back to Shawshank so he can cross the border. She has his birth certificate, but he doesn’t have any photo ID. I responded to her – I’m pretty sure I have some expired ID in an old wallet here, would that help? Just awaiting her reply.
But hopefully, the ball is rolling.
