The End of an Era

This is my last day of work.

It feels a bit surreal to think about it.

It’s raining, and gray. Today, it’s only me and StressedRPh. We had the mini-party last week, so I don’t expect there will be any fanfare today. I’ll go in, do my job, and when I punch out, that’s it. Employee #2930770 is no longer active.

I think I needed this. I’ve been doing this job for literally a third of my life. Pharmacy tech isn’t a position that has room for advancement. You don’t get to move up. You can be a lead tech, which is more responsibility for a $0.50/hour pay increase. I don’t want to work in a position where I can kill someone for $15/hour.

I finished a shift yesterday, worked my last shifts with NewTech and the new guy pharmacist. I assured NewTech that we’ve all made mistakes at work, and told her about some of the ones I’ve done in the last 15 years. “Even Supertech makes mistakes, and when I do, they’re really bad”, I told her. It made her feel better. I still don’t think she’ll be there much longer. The new guy bought me a couple of my favorite protein cookies. We bumped elbows when I left, and I assured him I’ll still answer texts and explain how to do things when he’s stuck.

Today’s a good day to have a good day.

So you’re saying there’s no chance of getting a kiddie pool?
