Plants and Birthdays and Fans and Balls.

Morning, y’all. Happy Sunday. Earlier, the skies were doing that weird thing that I’ve only seen here: weirdly sunny but with big black clouds. Currently, shit’s gray out there. There’s a little bit of sun peeking through.

Yesterday, I went out for a couple of hours. I didn’t want to sit in the house because I knew I would simply stew in a swirl of bitterness and depression. Friday night’s call was ok, but there was some fallout after that left me angry and sad. Knowing if I stayed inside I would end up even worse, I was trying to forcefully remove myself from the funk. Although I tried to stick to one store, I ended up dividing my time between Target and Walmart. While Target’s cosmetic section is better, their hardware and craft options weren’t as good as Walmart’s. I picked up the stuff to make another terrarium.

This one is a mix between a native terrarium like Teensicola (ferns, fumeria, bearded lichen, and pennywort), with some Pittsburgh ivy and something called purple passion. Two snails found their way into the habitat as well. Unfortunately, the larger jar isn’t airtight. Later this morning, I’ll put some plastic wrap on the jar and add a bead of silicone around the inside lip of the lid. I don’t want to permanently seal it, I just want it airtight. I may open up Teensicola quickly today, since I want to push some roots closer to the substrate layer.

My BFF sent me a digital gift card for Etsy. Naturally, I spent a bunch of time looking at Russian tech fans online after my chat with Shawshank last night. There’s always that decision – how fast do I want something, and how much do I want it. I’m torn between two makers. Both shops are very well regarded in the fan community and make beautiful fans. The first shop is in Russia. They only have two designs in my price point, but offer a bit more in terms of color options. The downside would be waiting at least a month before they arrived. The second shop is in Florida, with stuff ready to ship. They have a shitload of designs to pick from; however, they only offer one color.

In the end, I went to bed without making any decision.

The Compound crew will be coming over later in the afternoon, and we’ll have the game on. I’m sure it will be everything we could possibly imagine. At least here, we won’t hear nearly as much of the racist shit. But… I can hide in my room, or in the backyard, if need be.
