Hello, world. I’m up. My cough kept me on the couch overnight. Shawshank walked me into bed at around 4:30am when he got up for work, and I slept until he left. Podrick jumped onto the bed for fat-baby cuddles, while a storm rumbled outside.

We enjoyed a mostly slow Thursday. Shawshank left for a little while to deal with a guy who wanted to buy the Hot Mess Express. It was a whole ass thing.

Like Pennywise, the Hot Mess Express has laid dormant for a couple of years now. I made 5 years of monthly payments and washed my hands of it, and it’s been sitting in the drive at Shady Acres for over a year now with the plan to sell it for parts. I can’t register it here in Saskatchewan, as it would need to cross back into the US and be properly, legally imported. I don’t have the title for it, because I never went through with whatever finalities needed to be done at the end of the loan’s terms, precisely because it’s not legally imported and I can’t do shit with it.

Thus, like every experience I’ve had selling anything, no one reads a fucking thing (and if they did read it, it doesn’t apply to them). After spending $60 so we could jump it and get it unlocked to check the mileage, the dude interested in the truck wanted the title so he could register it.

I’m bringing back rage comics because they are the only thing that adequately conveys my annoyance at humanity.

Shawshank‘s working the morning shift today, and I’m trying to decide if I want to stream. It’s Friday, which means it would probably suck. I want to, because I like to keep getting online, but I’m also coughing. The cough isn’t the 24/7 cough, and I found an expired inhaler that helped, but still. It’s not sexy.

The forecast warned us today would be warmer, and it is. Podrick allowed us to stay in bed until at least 7am, knocking down my sunset lamp because he’s got that “KNOCK SHIT DOWN” gene, but still expecting to be cuddled for it. I woke up really early at one point, coming out of a dream that the wheat puffs we’ve been feeding the crows were attracting a huge number of rats, the likes of which haven’t been seen outside an Indiana Jones set, to feast on crow puffies at night.

Shawshank made us brunch yesterday, and with my face congested as fuck, I forced down some french toast and bacon that I could barely taste. Later, he loaded up some Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 and I gave myself a mani and pedi. It turned out ok. Not amazing, but I’m also not a good nail tech. I used the gel kit Shawshank‘s parents got me for Christmas, and it’s definitely something that needs more practice than the standard, off-the-shelf OPI polish. Plus, it’s a little awkward trying to stick my foot under the UV lamp.

I expect today won’t be much different. We have today off, followed by 4 days of opening shifts. I plan to get in the beanbag early, I want to see what I can get out of morning streams.

Hello, world. I’m up, Shawshank got up and let me doze when Podrick did the asshole things. He was a very snuggly boy this morning (Podrick, not Shawshank), but he knocked stuff around and got Shawshank out of bed.

My cold wiped out any drive I might have had to be performatively skanky yesterday. Instead of camming, I sat on the couch, blowing my nose nonstop, and teaching myself how to use Davinci Resolve. All I want to do is edit a landscape video into vertical, why’s it got to be so fucking difficult? I eventually got it, but that shit had me feeling like a Boomer with a flashing VCR clock.

I listened to cover songs, ate a liverwurst sandwich, used up an entire box of tissues, and played some Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 until Shawshank came home. My current park uses a coaster as an improvised shuttle across the park. At some point, I might actually get out of sandbox mode and play the game.

We have two days off. Today, we’re having brunch. I don’t feel like my head is quite as stuffy this morning, but we’ll see how the day goes.

Hello, world. The week rolls on, and now it’s Tuesday. The crow army – now six members strong – landed in the front yard for breakfast at the feeder, ignoring the wheat puffs Shawshank scattered in the back. They picked at the leftover sunflower seeds the smaller birds pulled out of the feeders.

My allergies are kicking in this week. It started yesterday…. it’s nothing an allergy pill can’t help. Halfway through my stream, I started to feel that hot, “this might not be allergies” tingle in my face. That tingle didn’t let up overnight, in fact it’s in full force this morning. I feel like it’s probably a good thing that we have the next two days off because I just might go through a box of tissues.

From the sound of things, the crows hanging out on that side of the house now. Pippin is probably hunkered down, watching them.

I’m going to try and make today like yesterday. “Try” is an important word.

new boot goofin

Hello, world. Welcome to a new week. We’re up. Podrick did Podrick things really early, spurred on by the wind making the blackout curtains flap in the bedroom. I was too warm and had a miserable time, but reset the Sleep Daddy I was listening to and hoped to crash. Not even the kitty snuggles made it better.

We had a nice Sunday. Shawshank skipped brunch and made a simple lunch that would get us through the early afternoon. After lunch, I put on my boots and sunscreen, and we drove out to a rodeo. It was a gorgeous day for a day out, wicked sunny with a nice breeze to keep it from being too hot. We brought our own water bottles this year, which was smart. While I was still shit about hydrating, it was more than I probably would have had otherwise.

The rodeo is always entertaining. We sat at the top of the bleachers, which is nerve-wracking for me. I’m usually terrified getting up there – the steps are complete bullshit and the boards are bouncy – but I’m generally ok once I’m sat. The organizers run a very tight schedule and keep things moving, and intermission came before we knew it. Shawshank ran off to stretch his legs and returned with a spiral cut potato for us to share. We made it through 90% of the day’s offerings, heading out right before the last event. We’re old, and we can’t sit on shit without cushions and back support all day. Plus, we can avoid the traffic jam getting out.

Once we made it home, we fed the cats and chilled until we were hungry enough for dinner. I hopped into the tub for a hot bath and some gaming while Shawshank watched old episodes of Modern Marvels.

We’re working today: two days on, then two days off. I’m going to assume a human form and act up.
