omg what happened to the FYP

Hello, world. It’s a gray morning in TinyTown. We’re expecting snow, a slight possibility for today, more certainly tomorrow. I’m hoping this is the end of it. Most of what snow was on the grass has melted. Saskatchewan says FUCK YO LAWN. We’ll see how much we get, and how long it lasts.

Yesterday had a bit of everything. We had brunch, “Balatro“, Slay the Spire, poutine… it was a nice day. I added a new option in the WordPress plugin so I could save the URL of a post. This should make it a lot easier for me to track data on the content that isn’t displayed in Fansly’s meager stats. Now, I won’t need to scroll through my entire profile to track the media that didn’t make the top 10 lists for the last week or month. Surprisingly, the addition went smoothly. Only two things were problematic, and they were simple fixes, adding a couple of missing variables.

In other smut news, Fansly just added a pop-up note when you make a new post that specifically says photos will not be pushed to the FYP. People are salty as fuck about it. Did they not notice that none of their photos were getting promoted before that? Because that’s been the case since the end of January. Jesus. The only difference is there’s a note warning creators about it happening now, probably because they’re overrun with support tickets about why their content isn’t blowing up the way it did a year ago.1 The official Fansly subreddit already makes it clear they won’t reply to posts about the FYP, and the last update has brought all the creators who would have previously flooded the FYP with pics onto Reddit with complaints.

So many of these creators – not just the NSFW ones, I see it on Youtube and TikTok help spots as well – think they are entitled to eyes just because they uploaded something. Fansly just slimmed down their algorithm to eliminate the content their users didn’t interact with. Creators can’t spam the FYP and expect the horny horde like they could previously. As more users came onto the platform, the user base and its preferences shifted, and creators need to adjust. The majority of them don’t want changes, because change requires them to fucking think.

Today will be Thursday. Shawshank is working for the next four days. I need to do a dick rating today, which is exactly what it sounds like. If I’m getting gussied up, I may as well take some pics.

  1. This was exactly what happened, support just confirmed it in one of the posts complaining about it. The warning is just a warning so people aren’t surprised when pics don’t perform the way they used to. ↩︎
