it’s not a bong, it’s a water pipe

it’s not a bong, it’s a water pipe

Why can’t I be under the heat dome? Instead, I picked my comfy clothes off the floor by the bed and they’d been on the heat vent and they were warm. WARM, I say.

I was midway through shooting content yesterday when I saw an email come through from Fansly’s compliance team. Emails from the pr0n police are never good, and I was already annoyed because my remote shutter wasn’t working, so I ended things. It looks like I was correct in my assumption that Fansly was fucking with their TOS last week. They’ve been nice enough to give us until the 28th to remove content.

They’re saying it’s a consent issue. According to Fansly, smoking cannabis impairs us, so therefore we can’t consent to creating and/posting sexual content. The marijuana mommies all think this is ridiculous1.

I questioned the whole thing, of course. Is this going to be one of those things where we can smoke a cigarette, a cigar, a pipe? Are we going old school smoke shop rules? None of these pipes are for cannabis, correct? Tobacco use only? Someone helpfully replied that Fansly told them “nicotine and cigarettes aren’t prohibited”. Duh, not helpful, and not what I asked. I wanted to know if I need to remove all my vape content, anything with a pipe, anything with a bong. Any of these can be used for both tobacco AND cannabis, so I need to know what I need to take down and what I can’t use in the future.

Like, the weed and my highness aren’t the focus, I just happen to like to smoke and exhale big clouds and pretend I’m a dragon. I can smoke both tobacco or weed with a bong, or I could go buy 200 cigarette tubes and fill them with either herb. I could do the same with a fucking corncob pipe and a vape. I have content where I’m vaping and playing Balatro, saying barely anything, let alone about what’s in the vape. Does that need to come down? If I’m not tagging it with #420 or #stonergirl, is my content suddenly ok?

As it turned out, that’s exactly what makes it ok. One of the devs came back and said it’s the context and framing of the content. It’s not the tool we smoke from, it’s what we’re smoking. If we’re smoking tobacco and frame it like it’s cannabis, it violates the TOS. On the other hand, if we’re smoking weed out of a 16ft bong made out of Habitrail hamster tubes and just don’t mention what it is or imply it’s anything other than tobacco, everything’s cool.

Today, sunshine. Maybe it will be nice enough to go outside for a little while, but most of my afternoon and evening will be spent editing hashtags and re-wording captions.

  1. not nearly as much as the NSFW furry content creators, who have to either take down all their content, or resort to poodling (wearing only their fursuit head) if they want to stay, due to “simulated bestiality” ↩︎
