harvest

Another early storm blew through this morning. I don’t know what time it showed up, but it woke me around 5am. Once again, I was unable to determine how far off the storm might have been. Not for a lack of lightning, however; this morning’s thunder came in one long, unending roll. I tried to enjoy it, but I had a very humid night. I’m too hot to sleep under the big blanket, but I’d be too cold if I went without. I can’t go without, I need to be under something. I can’t sleep without being covered; the fan blows on me, and I need to be invisible. Lighter blankets aren’t substantial enough to make me feel like I’m completely covered, even if they might block the fan.

It’s all so complicated because my brain is a fucking bitch.

We drove out to Slightly BiggerTown for groceries and weed. Most of the morning’s shitty weather had cleared up by the time we left, and the drive was nice. The corn is tall, and the hay harvest has started. While we saw a few bales here and there during our last shopping trip, a lot more has been cut and baled since our last trip. We stopped and grabbed lunch on the way out of town. A small girl was absolutely enthralled by my hair and couldn’t stop looking at me.

The weather cleared up over the course of the day. We ate lunch and played games: Tears of The Kingdom for Shawshank, and Slay the Spire for myself. Having discovered all of the wells in the game, Shawshank moved on to hunting for caves. He found a few new spots, as well as some new gear. I played the daily challenge, and spent the first few rounds bemoaning the fact that I had a tiny deck that I couldn’t easily add to. I can’t tell you what point it happened, but the game went from “Jesus, this is fucking awful” to “THIS IS FUCKING AMAZING”. It ended up being one of my best runs ever.

Since we had a big lunch, and the restaurants in town were closed, we skipped dinner. We showered, went out for ice cream, and watched “Hit Man” on Netflix. It was better than either of us expected.

This morning’s storm seems to have blown out, but it’s still overcast. We’re going out to Shady Acres this afternoon. Sunday dinner and family shit. I haven’t decided if I’ll bring the Switch with me again, it worked out splendidly last weekend.
