Ass to Ass

Good morning, my lovelies. I bid you glad tidings from the Sunshine State. The day is, in fact, sunny. I’m in a good mood – for the moment. Why? you might ask. Because I have internet again.

For the moment. We’ll see what happens.

I was putting on my makeup when Mom received another text confirming our scheduled repair. Once again there was some confusion, as Mom had cancelled the service on Wednesday night. She hadn’t called to sign up for cable yet, and at this point she just wanted to see how fucked this entire situation could get. A bit after noon, we started to see AT&T trucks going through the neighborhood, as well as the sales manager again. Mom received several more texts with status updates on when we could expect a tech. However, it wasn’t until just before the “repair window” closed that anyone actually came to talk to us.

Due to some colossal administrative fuckup, something that totally isn’t supposed to happen did. Our account was assigned a port, and someone two houses down was assigned the same port. We’re not sure which of us had service first. We had service installed, and it worked. Another tech was at the neighbors last weekend, either for an installation or a service call, and removed our line from the port in the process. As a result, our house lost service, causing the outage that started on Mother’s Day.

The second tech was on the right track when he told us what needed to be done, but Tuesday’s tech dropped the ball entirely when he just plugged us back in to our assigned port. Plugging us back in knocked out the neighbor’s service, triggering a service call for them on Wednesday. Whoever came to do their repair looked at the box, saw an incorrect line in the assigned port, and unplugged us.

We would have just continued, back and forth, infinitely fucking each other like Jennifer Connelly’s big finale in Requiem for a Dream.

I’d like to remain optimistic – the tech yesterday was very apologetic that this has been happening since activation. Initially he thought there would be a delay in getting us back online because there weren’t enough ports and they would need to patch us in somewhere farther down the line. However, an escalation supervisor called while he was explaining the issue to us. As it turned out, there was a port they could assign, since one of the ports only “looked full”.

So, for the moment, we still have TV and internet.

Now, I need to put my clothes on the line and get ready for the day. There’s Chinese food to be had.
