a trip out

Where’s Badge 502? I have questions…

Good morning, world. We’re all up, because Podrick was up. I’m trying so hard to keep him quiet, but he is easily the size of my mom’s shih zhu. He is not a silent cat. If I could make a literary comparison, Podrick is not Carl Sandburg’s cat, he is Clifford the Big Red Dog.

Shawshank took me on an adventure yesterday, as planned. We got out on the road earlier than we normally would leave the house, but we had a drive. It’s about 90 minutes to the nearest Walmart, and it wasn’t a bad day for it. The roads were clear, the weather was beautiful, and traffic was light.

Hottest trend for 2026:
beach gear for the landlocked

We only had three stops: Walmart first, then Canadian Tire, and McDonalds on our way out of the town. We grabbed a cart and split up for a few minutes, each of us checking out our respective clothing selections. I made a beeline for tank tops, snagged a couple, then checked out underwear. The last time we were in a Walmart, I bought a 3-pack of thongs, which turned out to be so comfortable that I’ve been wishing I could find something similar ever since. Imagine my happiness to discover they still make them. I grabbed two packs and found Shawshank, and we filled the cart with groceries and things we couldn’t find closer to home.

We made good time in Canadian Tire, because we didn’t actually need anything. I dropped what I considered to be a crazy amount on a new water bottle. I am extremely picky about water bottles; some people hate the way a shirt feels, I hate Stanley-style water bottles that are smaller at the base than the top. I knew the chances of finding another one that met my specifications in a thrift shop are very slim, so I quashed my disgust at the $30 price tag and bought it in the name of hydration. Shawshank ran into McDonalds and grabbed us some lunch, and I handed him cheeseburgers while he drove us home.

It was mid-afternoon when we finally pulled up in front of The Flat. We unloaded our bags and put food away, then I dumped some of the McD’s fries and half of my McNuggets into the air fryer so I could eat. It was a fabulous end to a nice day out. We kicked back on the couch for the rest of the night.

Today, we’re doing things around the house. But first, coffee.
