It was 15 minutes before the alarm was set to go off when I looked at the clock this morning. I figure I was awake even before that, but not that much earlier. Even though I had turned down my side of the heated mattress before we went to sleep, I was definitely a bit too warm by morning. However, I did manage to sleep an hour more than usual. I’ll take it.

Weirdly, I woke up with the theme song to Darkwing Duck running through my head for some reason.

I took it very easy yesterday, making more attempts to keep hydrated and less trying to nap. After lunch, I put on The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and laid down on the couch. I enjoyed it much more this time around than when we first watched them. The CGI still looks pretty touch-and-go, either comically bad or good enough that I’m annoyed they didn’t do better on the shitty parts. I’m convinced that Sir Ian McKellen is doing his best Christopher Walken impression when he says the name “Smaug”. I remember watching all three films in 2015 or so, but couldn’t remember anything about them other than thinking “enough with the singing dwarves” about it. However, that was back in the Lost Year. I had shit going on back then. I’ll probably watch the other two parts next week.

Yesterday was date night, and we went out to the little diner at the edge of town for our regular Friday night burgers and fries. It was busier than usual there. The woman who works the night shift was running around trying to keep everything under control. Usually she cooks and there’s a young girl there running food. Last night, the owner was in the back, cooking things, and the girl wasn’t working. She came out to thank me for the painting I gave them last week. On the way out, we joked with the waitress about how if they weren’t particularly picky about the legalities, I’m perfectly capable of carrying a tray and taking orders. We all laughed, but there was definitely an undercurrent of “hold up, maybe this could work out….” there.

One of the Discord servers I’m part of is trying to start a beginner Dungeons and Dragons campaign. We’re talking super beginner, as many of us have no experience at all. My sole experience with anything is Baldur’s Gate and the various MUDs I ran/played in the 90’s. This week, we’re going through character creation. Shawshank printed out the entire players handbook while he was at work yesterday. I plan on going through some stuff today to get an idea of what I’m looking to be, before we start the actual character creation parts.

Shawshank has work in the morning, and won’t be home under mid-afternoon. We did grocery shopping last week, so we shouldn’t need to leave the house again until tomorrow. Once he’s home, we’ll let the weekend begin.
