WP Prompt of the Day: What’s a small moment from your past that you still think about years later?

The only one that stands out to me is an afternoon in 2020, when I was in the midst of The Great Sort. It was in the middle of lockdown – we were still social distancing, but things were opening up. I had made the trek to the east side of the state to give some things to family. At some point during the drive it hit me that this was probably the last time I would see this view – a view I took for granted for 40-odd years. I had to pull over, take a few pics, and sit and cry a little.

Hello, world. It’s another morning, and it looks sunny. There were some pretty fucking dramatic skies out there. Much like yesterday, I woke up early, but didn’t really sleep again. Podrick was pretty cuddly, climbing across me and headbutting my jaw before finding a position that let him stretch out and keep his paws on my pillow. He’s really started to spend more time on the bed while we’re sleeping over the last month. He likes a small spot by my feet, but there have been a couple of occasions where he’s settled close beside us.

Yesterday’s lack of sleep fucked the entire day. I was in the worst mood. Everything irritated me. I needed to eat lunch but didn’t want anything. My soda tasted too sweet. I played “Witcher” when the Switch was fully charged, but I’m at a point where I’m too low to do much with quests other than accept them. I need to go grind out a couple of levels on wolves and drowners or something.

Shawshank came home, and I switched to playing “Balatro” on the iPad while he played “Cyberpunk” until dinner was ready. Wrestling started way later than expected. I pulled out my needlework project intending to start some background work, only to discover I’d already started the background…. just not with the stitch I’d decided to do. Restraining myself from throwing the whole project like a frisbee, I worked on cutting the work out, and it took much longer than I anticipated. I could have transferred the design to a whole new piece of fabric and restarted the damned thing in less time.

Even as we were going to bed, things were determined to piss me off. I put a drink in the fridge and smacked my knuckles on the shelf.

Hopefully today is better. I haven’t spent half my morning on autopilot, which is already an improvement over yesterday.
