Wake up, did you know it’s Tuesday? It is. It’s also pre-sunrise, and cold. Welcome to another edition of THIS IS BULLSHIT. We’re cold. “Stunning and deadly” is how they’ve described it on the TV just now. Sure, that’s true. That doesn’t mean it’s not pure bullshit. Beauty and bullshit are not mutually exclusive. It can be both.
There’s a feud happening between our neighbors, Podcast, and Blondie, who lives on the other side of Podcast’s flat. Podcast had been taking up nearly two parking spots in the driveway with his shitbox. This was blocking Blondie’s access to the plug for her car’s warmer, which has been fine until now. Then, when he moved the shitbox, he took her extension cord. Understandably, Blondie wasn’t happy with him.
I managed to do some work yesterday, setting up the “studio” shortly after Shawshank went to work. I took some pictures, but I wasn’t in the mood to edit them. All I really wanted to do was move, so I put clothes on and launched an afternoon spin time stream. Once again, the stream was empty. I’m sure if I wore things that glowed under black light, the stream would be busier. Things improved when I opted to turn the lights up, but not by much.
With the leviwand in regular prop rotation, spin time has morphed into a less poi-centric flow. I don’t devote the entire time to the wand, as it’s far too picky. Additionally, I’m working with a limited amount of space and moves, and in my mind a lot of my clips look very much the same.
Recently, I took the time to set up a couple of playlists on TikTok, one for poi and one for wand. Since there’s not a lot of wand content on my profile, it was easy enough to sort them by upload date. I watched a few from the beginning, and there’s a big difference between the stuff from last April and the most recent posts. While I’m improving, leviwand in general is not a “stable” prop, and the clips are shorter. At this point, I’m only really just now feeling like I have some control, and it looks (mostly) how I imagine it looks while I use it. I can’t control it for more than a minute without the wand getting (what I call) “the wobbles”. I know some flow artists can keep it going, or recover from a fumble, but I’m not there yet. Eventually.
Shawshank‘s working a mid shift today, so I have the entire day to myself. I have some photos to edit and upload.
