a beautiful timesink

Yay Monday. Or something. There’s a sunrise out there, big and bright. The coffee is hot. Shawshank has a cat in his lap. Pippin is watching the world through the back doorway.

We enjoyed another slow Sunday. Shawshank did chores and we played some No Man’s Sky before we went to Shady Acres for dinner. He posted a write-up of his thoughts on the game after playing for about 12 hours. We both agree that the game is a beautiful timesink. It is way too easy to load the game, find a target, then lose an hour without accomplishing anything. There’s a lot to explore. I’m constantly looking for planets with dramatic spots to build bases. Shawshank‘s save file has vividly colored paradise planets. I ended up in the desert.

I love the fact that I can almost always access my two inventories, both suit and ship. However, I feel like if that’s “possible” in the game, then there’s no fucking reason why they shouldn’t stack automagically. If I’m within range of beaming shit, why do I need to have a stack of carbon in each inventory? Just throw it in the pile with the rest, bro. I don’t care if the pile is in the ship or in my backpack. I’ll move the pile if I need to, but I don’t need two piles.

The galaxy map is hot garbage.

Since it’s Monday, it’s another Sloth Day. I have to take a couple of POV “test shots” for the dude who wants the custom video. He wants it shot from two different points of view, and asked to approve the angles. I don’t entirely trust that he’s doing this in a “I’m the director, I’m directing” way and not a “lol test shots are still spank material to me” way. He is absolutely getting the most basic shots, and I’ll be wearing the Teletubby onesie. I’m not just giving that shit away for free.
